Grand Vainqueur dans la catégorie « Portraits »
Médaille d'or dans la sous-catégorie « Africa »
Ayimpoka lives in a little village in Northern Ghana. Albinism has been a cause of discrimination and persecution for centuries, and in many African countries, albino children are euthanized due to their popular association with black magic. In her community, she is loved and protected, also supported by a local NGO. In the portrait, she was recovering from malaria. Months later, I returned and gave her the photograph with her sister, unaware that this portrait would win a world photography award. Thanks to this, we were able to invest in her education, transferring her to an inclusive school and providing her with daily transportation, avoiding the long distances she previously traveled and thus reducing the impact of the sun on her skin and health.
