Casas Blancas Cielos Azules is a series of large-scale digital collages combining architectural photographs with cyanotype prints of traditional Islamic patterns. Created while living in Casablanca, these works reflect my response to the city’s light, rhythm, and architecture.

Casablanca is a city in flux, driven by visions of modernity. Its urban fabric is layered with contrasts: aging Art Deco façades, plain housing blocks, and glass-and-steel high-rises all coexist beneath an expansive blue sky.

In Casas blancas cielos azules, I photographed white buildings set against the clear, cloudless skies so characteristic of the city. These images were then fragmented, mirrored, and rearranged using compositional methods informed by my studies in Islamic geometric design. This process abstracts the buildings, removing them from their physical context and reimagining them as floating forms. Each collage is layered with cyanotype prints made from hand-drawn patterns, referencing the deep design traditions of the region.

While the project is rooted in formal explorations of pattern and repetition, it also reflects a deeper tension — between nostalgia and progress, stability and change. The series captures the quiet poetry found in overlooked structures and familiar skylines, inviting viewers to reflect on what is retained and what is lost in the pursuit of growth and transformation.

By combining digital and analogue processes, Casas Blancas Cielos Azules becomes both an observation and an offering: a visual meditation on place, impermanence, and the persistence of beauty in a shifting urban landscape.
