Yada Zango (Temporary camp) originate from the Sahelian and savanna regions of southern Niger and northern Nigeria. Our early settlements, known as the Hausa Bakwai, include Daura, Kano, Katsina, Zaria, Gobir, Rano, and Biram. These city-states emerged between the 9th and 14th centuries. We the Hausa people have always migrated across the Sub-Saharan Africa. Our adaptability, resilience, and cultural richness has spread far and wide. From establishing powerful city-states to integrating into diverse societies, the Hausa have left an indelible mark on the continent's history and continue to shape its cultural and economic landscapes today.
Zongos (Settlements) are not just camps, they are hubs of shared experiences, and mirrors to the strength of a community. Each Zongo across the Sub Saharan reveals something new, whether it's the aroma of traditional cuisine wafting through the streets, the different hausa accents, the vibrant social interactions that define everyday life. Zongos are places where history meets the present, creating an environment that feels peculiar but very familiar and inspiring.
