Médaille d'or dans la sous-catégorie « Autre »
Oman has changed a lot over the past decades. Oil sales have resulted in the rapid development of not only the country's infrastructure, but also culture and lifestyle. The period of these rapid changes and progress is associated with the "Renaissance" of Sultan Qaboos, the recently deceased sultan of Oman.
The pictures show the interiors of abandoned Arab houses that I found in Oman and photographed between 2013 and 2015. These homes were abandoned decades ago and their residents moved to modern buildings. These buildings still remember the times before the great modernisation and are somehow a symbol of the "old world" leaving which was not influenced by globalisation.
Many of these buildings no longer exist. Old houses were demolished in order to recover the areas for new investments. In the Salalah in the south of the country, a large part of the old Al Hafa district was completely removed to provide land for tourists.
