She settled in Europe eight years ago. This portrait is inspired by Josep Tapiro Baro by his Oriental watercolor paintings from Tangier, Marocco.
The West, for centuries-, has been looking through a lens which distorts the reality of the African continent, people and it's history. With the surge of immigrants in the West, these preconceived notions & stereotyping unfortunately often remain and are fueled by a lack of knowledge, understanding and the fear of the unknown. This portrait show dignity, richness, beauty, strength as well as remind us of the important contributions of Africans in European history.
