Médaille d'or dans la sous-catégorie « En dehors du Maghreb »
MAGHREBINE is a visual-story that focuses on the journey, in the broadest sense of the word. MAGHREBINE is a journey through time and space. Not only a physical journey from one continent to another, but also a journey in the quest to belonging and to keeping balance between different cultures. It is an ongoing process in which the past, present and future are connected and continuously questioned and (re)discovered. A journey that continues from generation to generation. MAGHREBINE is a story of and about the Maghreb and Amazigh diaspora in the Netherlands, but at the same time holds such a large universal theme that many other migrant communities worldwide will identify with. And through the many migratory flows in the Netherlands will also lead to acknowledgment and recognition here. The stories and experiences offer a perspective that is often overlooked or has not yet been shared, but is incredibly relevant in today's globalized world. MAGHREBINE allows viewers to look beyond prejudice and engage with individuals from the Maghreb and Amazigh communities.
The title of this series refers to the North African region now known as Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya & Mauritania. The Amazigh people, who are the indigenous inhabitants of what is now known as the Maghreb region, holds a rich cultural heritage of storytelling. These stories are told through multiple disciplines such as poetry, craftsmanship, painting, dancing and music. Among other things, this cultural heritage has always provided and protected the people's freedom to express themselves. This visual-story honors that legacy.
