Exodus_Simulation_Luxury_Simulacrum - @Javierprietofernandez
Ouarzazate's film sets offer tourists a simulated biblical exodus experience in a papier-mâché Ancient Egypt. Tourism tries to offer a similar experience on life-size sets.
Tourist macro-structures open the door to fake oases, fake luxurious palaces, and fake desert traverses of a time and an imaginary make-believe that pleases visitors, voracious consumers of non-existent aesthetics.
The statues of the ‘New Egypt’ contrast with the changed landscape caused by the extension of the urban periphery into the desert. Real life always prevails and destroys the pretended aesthetics. The raw concrete is imposed over luxury stage scenery. The oasis overflows and destroys the swimming pool.
35mm film. C-41 process.
