Milton Margai School for the Blind is the only school for blind children in Sierra Leone. At the time of photography there were 65 students between 6-18 years of age, being taken care of by 9 teachers, mostly former students themselves. Children live in the school all year apart from school holidays when they return to parents. Unlike in a usual school they don’t have to pay school fees. Finances are insufficient and mostly donated by wealthy Freetownees.

The biggest problems of the school are lack of specialized learning tools and musical instruments, hygiene, food, running water, electricity and old urine smelling mattraces as well as torn out mosquito nets.
